The Lorgnette Pinhole Occluder is a versatile and essential tool used in ophthalmic and optometric examinations. This occluder, also known as a Mask Occluder, is designed to cover either eye while providing a pinhole attachment that can be moved up to offer a clear opening for viewing

The pinhole attachment typically features 17 small holes, each about 1.5mm in diameter, which help focus light entering the eye and temporarily remove the effects of refractive errors such as myopia

One of the primary uses of the Lorgnette Pinhole Occluder is to test visual acuity. By looking through the pinholes, patients can achieve a clearer image if their vision issues are due to refractive errors. If the patient’s visual acuity improves when using the pinhole occluder, it indicates that corrective lenses may help improve their vision. Conversely, if there is no improvement, it may suggest the presence of other ocular conditions that require further investigation

The Lorgnette Pinhole Occluder is made from high-impact resistant plastic, ensuring durability and longevity

Its lightweight design and angled handle make it easy to use, allowing the examiner to keep their hand away from the patient’s face during the examination

This design also makes it suitable for patients of all ages, providing a comfortable and efficient way to conduct eye exams.

Additionally, the pinhole occluder can be used in testing visual acuity in mydriatic patients, where the pinholes compensate for the inability to contract the iris, assisting the eye in obtaining a retinal projection similar to that of a non-cycloplegic eye

This feature is particularly useful in various clinical settings, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
